Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me. --- As a lot of you know, I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune condition (1 in a milly) called chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis in childhood. It's a disease that tricks your immune system into attacking your bones. For a few years due to pain, I could not participate in sports. I also felt very isolated and lonely because I didn't know anyone with that experience. My case was milder than some - many patients are unable to walk due to the locale of their bone lesions and experience complications from experimentation with pharmaceutical drugs. On Saturday, July 22nd, I'm running the Buckin' Hell 50k ultramarathon for Kaila's Komfort, a registered charity in the US that directly supports newly diagnosed children and adults. I will match the first $250 USD and my goal is $1000 USD. Any surplus funds the charity receives is donated by them to the CRMO Warriors Guild which directly funds Dr. Zhao's research, the world expert of CRMO at Seattle Children's Hospital. We still don't know what causes this condition and diagnoses can only be made via MRI and bone biopsy (surgery) which is inaccessible to many. Dr. Zhao is researching lower cost diagnostic methods, disease biomarkers, and aims to improve patient outcomes.
