Hello, my name is Dominik Tye. I am a sophomore at the University of Kentucky majoring in Environmental & Sustainability Studies. I was chosen to be a part of the Bluegrass Down Under Program, a 12 week study abroad program in Australia. Throughout these 12 weeks, I will study various geography courses while living in Sydney and Cairns (Great Barrier Reef). During the last leg of the program, I will be involved in an internship with an Australian environmental company working to remove and prevent plastics and trash from getting into the ocean. This is the opportunity of a lifetime for me, helping me jump start my career in environmental protection and sustainability. The only thing standing in the way of this opportunity is funding. I work 20-30 hours a week and have tried saving up throughout this semester, but I also have a high monthly insurance rate which makes saving enough money very difficult. I'm enrolled in 15 credit hours this semester, so working more would surely cause my grades to slip. My parents have their own financial concerns but are helping me as much as they can. My own money and my parents' money are not enough, however. I need to be able to put money towards the program itself, as well as pay for my flight, textbooks, and other travel expenses still. My departure date is December 27th, but it would be best if I could gather the funds by December 10th. If anyone can contribute just a little bit I may be able to make this dream semester become a reality. The experiences, friendships, and connections I will make during this semester abroad are truly unique and will put me ahead of competitors while applying for internships, and eventually career opportunities. If this happens I will make each and every one who donated to my cause proud. If you help me, I will show you just how much I can accomplish given this opportunity. Since I was a child I have been aware and very sensitive to topics concerning environmental sustainability and protection. My dream is to one day make a lasting impact on the way we treat our planet's land and water, and to fight for the cause of leaving a sustainable planet for generations to come. If you help me make it to Australia you will allow me to take a huge leap in that direction, and you will one day feel the lasting impact of your contribution. Thank you for your time and generosity.
