Hi, I’m Summer, Mia’s aunt. I am putting together this account because many friends and family have reached out asking how they can help support the McCabe’s during this stressful time! Jesse, Rachel, Miles and Mia were out of state in New Jersey for a week of vacation when it took a turn early on and Mia got really sick. They ended up in the hospital at the beginning of their trip and Mia was shortly transferred to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for a bowel obstruction. She had a NG tube inserted from her nose to stomach for many days trying to drain her stomach to try to avoid surgery and see if it could help the blockage. Things started to look better, but once the solid foods were reintroduced, she was having severe pain all over again. She has been having complications from CDH, (congenital diaphragmatic hernia) which she was born with. She had surgery at birth and many surgeries and medical difficulties as she has grown up from this condition. Yet she is so bright and strong! Our Mighty Mia! Rachel and Mia are staying for at least the next week as the doctors there are preparing her for surgery. Her small intestines are twisted and the surgeon feels positive he can help Mia. She has lost a lot of weight since not being able to eat the past week in the hospital. They will insert a PICC line for Mia to get her food/nutrition for the next few days to prepare her for surgery so she is at her best. It has and will be a long stay for them away from home. If you know Mia, you know how amazing she is! Her family is equally as wonderful and we would appreciate the extra help at this time to ease the financial burden of being stuck away from home during this procedure. This will help with meals, any extra clothes, and flights for Jesse and Rachel to get back and forth as needed!
