Hello, I'm David, Lola's Grandad, and on behalf of my son Matthew and his partner Chloe, I'd like to share their story so far: Lola’s leukaemia journey video link. https://youtu.be/x-mAxsPgdBM 'On the 12th of April, we (Matt and Chloe) took Lola to the doctors as she wasn’t her normal self, with symptoms of a constant cough, along with very bad leg and hip pain and very pale skin. The GP sent us straight to hospital to have Lola’s blood tested to see what could be causing this. After what felt like hours of talking through symptoms, assessing Lola, having bloods taken and then waiting for the results, we got given a room to wait in, where we were sat down and told that Lola has Leukaemia. We knew something wasn’t right, but nothing could’ve prepared us for a doctor telling us our daughter has blood cancer. To say it felt like we were living in a nightmare would be an understatement. We spent the next 10 days in Southampton Hospital where Lola was fitted with a central line (a large cannula in the side of her chest that leads directly to the heart, used for giving medication and taking blood) before starting her chemotherapy treatment. Lola's treatment, which is split between Southampton and Salisbury Hospital, consists of chemotherapy, bone marrow tests, lumbar punctures, blood and platelet transfusions and many daily medications taken at home. Our world was flipped upside down the day Lola got diagnosed and it has taken its toll on all of us, physically and mentally. No five year old should have to go through as many procedures as Lola has already, and no parent should have to watch them suffer.' Lola's Mum, Chloe, has stopped working for a minimum of 6 months while Lola undergoes her most intense treatment, being her carer and taking her to all of her appointments. The next part of Lola’s treatment is a very intense phase which involves new chemotherapy drugs and at higher levels which will be incredibly tough on Lola’s body. At the moment she is being incredibly brave. Both Chloe and Matt will be at home supporting and caring for her during this stage. Any funds raised on this page will go towards paying household bills, whilst Lola goes through her treatment over the next two years and Chloe and Matt are unable to work. Along with the additional costs of travel, parking, and food when staying overnight in the hospital. Your support would be greatly appreciated. We know that life is expensive for everyone at the moment but even the smallest amount would mean a lot to Matt and Chloe during this difficult time. Thank you for taking the time to read Lola's story so far x
