UPDATE 2/23/24: Katie was diagnosed with Stage III Inflammatory breast cancer (hormone receptor + and HER2+) of the right breast. This kind of cancer is very rare (only accounts for 1 to 5% of all breast cancers) and is aggressive. Since finishing chemo in December, they have removed her breast but cancer still lingers among the lymphatic system. There is a lot of uncertainty about the prevalence of her cancer reoccurring but it is very likely. She has gone through multiple breast and skin/muscle graft surgeries. Due to this she has been out of work on unpaid leave for the last month. She is hoping to get back to work in March but she will still have to take days off for follow up doctor/specialist appointments. Katie has a gaping hole in her back along with two incision holes from her muscle/skin graft on her chest. To help with the healing, she has to wear a wound vac for the next couple months. This is very uncomfortable but will help the wounds heal quicker than normal. Insurance has been great but medical bills have been persistent. Especially with the multiple surgeries, wound vac and specialists doctor appointments. Anything donated will be put toward medical expenses, mortgage/home bills. With her not working, anything helps! Hi, my name is Lisa and I am Katie's mom. As you know, we have recently found out that Katie has been diagnosed with Stage 3: Invasive Ductal Carcinoma that has spread to the axillary lymph nodes on the right side. It has not spread to the left breast which we are thankful for. However, she still has a long journey ahead of her and our family will be there every step of the way! I am starting this LFEBridge because we want to make sure that we can ease the financial burden as much as possible as she goes through this. Right now, the plan is for Katie to go through chemo for 16-20 weeks, then get a single (right) mastectomy, followed by radiation. During that time, Katie will take as many paid sick days as needed followed by unpaid medical leave. Katie is a Deaf education teacher and is starting a new position this fall. She plans to work as long as she can before having to take medical leave to recover from chemo and the mastectomy surgery. Your donations will help Katie with medical bills, living expenses and food during this time. Any donation is appreciated!! We will be sure to keep you updated on Katie's journey so you all know how she is doing. Please send positive vibes, prayers, and luck to my girl. She has been so much since the day she was born, and has overcome all of it! And we know she will get through this too! THANK YOU!!
