For anyone who has the pleasure of knowing Kathy Wade, you know that she’s goofy, loving, quick-witted, and an absolute fire cracker. She is the incredible mother of three amazing daughters – Olivia, a music therapist and recent mother, Alexis, who is currently in nursing school and also serves at the 179th Airlift Wing, and Savannah, who is studying to be an aesthetician. Kathy also recently became a grandmother to healthy and happy baby girl, Quinn Tallulah. You would never know it by their incredible attitudes and amazing smiles, but for the last six years, her family has watched as Kathy battled various forms of cancer. In February of 2017, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and successfully underwent treatment. She was deemed cancer free, but unfortunately, in September of 2017 she learned that the cancer had metastasized into her spine, ribs, sacrum, skull, and sternum. In October of 2017, she began working with Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Chicago IL. Over a six-year span, she flew to Chicago biweekly to monthly for treatments. While this was initially successful in keeping her cancer stable, this past spring it was discovered that the cancer had spread to her liver. While CTCA was initially able to keep her cancer stable, the treatments they were using were too harmful, and unfortunately they could no longer treat her. This June, after lots of research, Kathy flew out to California for a 12 week stay at a facility more equipped to treat her specific needs. This treatment will take place tentatively through September and involves 12 rounds of chemo as well as various other therapies to compliment the healing process. As you can well imagine, none of these treatments or therapies are even remotely affordable, and many are not covered by insurance. Which brings us where we are today. If you know Kathy or her family AT ALL, you know that she would never, ever ask for help. Her middle daughter Alexis is my best friend, and I've seen just how much this has impacted them over the last few years. I knew they would never do it themselves, so I secretly concocted this plan to create a LFEBridge to help alleviate the financial stress of this entire situation. This entire process has been emotionally, mentally, and financially taxing on the entire family. While they are some of the most brave and resilient people I’ve ever met, thoughts and prayers in a situation like this can only go so far. If you are comfortable, I ask that you consider sharing money to help offset the costs of some of Kathy’s treatments. It is crucial right now that she focuses on healing and being there for her daughters and granddaughter – not worrying about how she’s going to pay for her next round of chemo. All proceeds will go directly to chemo treatments, lodging, meals, and flights to and from the treatment facility. Any amount is greatly appreciated and will go a long way for this incredible family.
