UPDATE: 8/8-8/9-John had a third surgery for his broken clavicle/collar bone. John had a really good morning with high spirits. He had amazing care, his pain was well managed and it ended with a very hard, but very rewarding PT session where he was able to stand with assistance. He was moved out of ICU which was a huge praise, but the transition has been a little tough as there are not teams of people dedicated to lifting and moving his body to try to keep him comfortable and a nurse who is solely dedicated to him and one other person. Instead there is one nurse running between five patients and an uncomfortable bed that constantly adjusts itself and jerks around his fragile broken bones. He is needing double the pain medicine to manage now that he is on the main floor and he is feeling very disappointed. Please pray that I would be able to effectively advocate for his needs and help him to get the best care possible for a faster recovery. Hi, my name is Vicki. My niece’s husband, John was in a serious bicycle accident on Friday, August 4th, 2024. Read Abigail’s words below. “Yesterday, John left to go for a quick and easy mountain bike ride while I put the kids down for a nap. I don’t know how he ended up where he did, but he was found unconscious at the bottom of a 30 ft drop. After being taken to the ER by ambulance, he was rushed into emergency surgery to remove his ruptured spleen and repair a collapsed lung. He is suffering from a fractured neck, broken clavicle, numerous broken ribs, as well as two broken arms. He is stable and alert and in the ICU currently. His helmet saved his life. He is in a lot of pain with at least one more surgery today and a long road to recovery. Please keep him in your prayers that he will eventually be able to make a complete recovery. We have been so overwhelmed by love and are so thankful for everyone who has offered help and care for us and our kids while I am at the hospital with John. John’s favorite Bible verse is Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Please continue to pray for courage for us all as we walk this path together.” As I type this he has just come out of reconstructive surgery on both wrists. This was an extensive surgery. There is concern as to whether he will regain full use of his arms. As a pilot and the sole financial provider for his young family, this is cause for great concern. As this young family is now faced with mounting medical bills and a long recovery, we are raising funds to help ease their burden. He has already been through 2 surgeries and will possibly need another. If you can help ease this burden, we would greatly appreciate it!
