My name is Katie Quintas. I run a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit called Here to Serve. We help families through the cancer journey with services, including organizing friends and family who wish to help. Recently, David Baker joined our Here to Serve Advisory Board when he learned about the vital work we do, knowing how important it is to care for families on the cancer journey. It is as important or more important than supporting hospitals that treat cancer or cancer research. If not for those on the cancer journey, there would be no need for cancer research or hospitals that treat it. So we believe that supporting cancer causes starts FIRST with supporting families on a cancer journey. David Baker shares this mission with us. So we are asking that you support this precious family as David supports other families on this unthinkable cancer journey. When David Baker joined Here to Serve's board, it was then that we heard about Jared, and we asked that David start out with us by Here to Serve helping his family. Here to Serve works with families with children battling cancer all over the country. We set up online care communities where friends and loved ones can join and receive updates on how Jared and his family are doing. Members can help provide meals, gift cards, send well wishes, and much more through these care communities. Go to Here to Serve, click the JOIN button, and register for Jared Baker's care community if you have not already done so. You will receive an email confirming your registration, asking you to set up your login and password. Regarding this Go Fund Me Page, please note when donating on the Go Fund Me platform: GO FUND ME SURREPTITIOUSLY ADDS A "TIP" TO THEMSELVES THAT LACKS TRANSPARENCY AND AVOIDS EASY DETECTION WHEN YOU DONATE!!! To avoid this from happening, be sure to read the entire page when you put in your donation amount. Look below your donation amount in the center of the page, it says, "Tip Go Fund Me Services." It will give you the option to make a custom tip. Pull the green dot to zero, and it will cancel the tip below your donation amount at the bottom of the donation page. If you miss this, they will add 15% to your donation. They already charge a 3% fee from which they gain income. JARED's STORY: Jared Von Baker’s original Stage, 4B Bulky Hodgkin's Lymphoma cancer in September 2016, was elusive to diagnose, but thankfully, his mother had an intuition that prompted multiple and persistent testing. Jared fought with months of chemotherapy, radiation, holistic remedies, and tremendous amounts of love and support and went into remission. After four years of supposed remission, he started experiencing significant pains and symptoms again. Doctors suspected that the cancer was not completely eradicated the first time, and scans revealed that the cancer was in his neck, lungs, chest, arms, stomach, back, pelvis, legs, and bone marrow. His second bout's treatment included chemotherapies and a stem cell transplant. Jared’s third battle with cancer (and second relapse) was discovered while receiving chemotherapy treatments for his second cancer battle (first relapse), which occurred only one year previously, so it was a huge surprise. Jared's treatment for his third bout started with a new chemo regimen, immunotherapies, and lots of radiation. He was admitted to the hospital in June 2024 to receive a Bone Marrow Transplant from his sister as his donor. The doctors have advised there aren't as many "tools'' in the toolbox this time around. They have been very open about their extra concern for Jared this time. Despite the decreased odds, Jared's family tries to stay hopeful, optimistic, and faithful. His treatments will be combined with prayer, holistic medicine, and lots of love and support! Symptoms: Rashes, fevers, difficulty breathing, intense itching, skin discoloration, and various body pains (especially legs and stomach). Jared is a fun and thoughtful 16-year-old who enjoys lacrosse, dirt biking, sports cars, listening to music, hanging out with friends, reading YA fantasy novels, and learning random facts. He is a big fan of the TV series The Chosen and strives to be a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. Jared is looking forward to the time when he can resume his hobbies and get a job to buy a car and pay for skydiving lessons. Jared has remained happy and positive during this battle, and he knows he has a whole team backing him up. He recognizes the love and support and appreciates the visual reminder each time he sees his parents, four siblings, extended family, and friends wearing their "Team Jared" shirts in his favorite colors of purple and fluorescent orange. Jared's family knows the battle will be long and hard, so they are immensely grateful for all the support as they continue in their determination to become a stronger family who fights with faith and grit. Your donation to this Go Fund Me page goes directly to the Baker family and will help the family in so many ways. When Jared was first diagnosed, Tamra left her job, and they became a one-income household. Also, David has changed employment and is now doing consulting to balance his work life with the demands of a critical health crisis of his son. This has affected their financial stability and health care for the rest of the family. Finances are stretched thin, and your support will help with many of their basic needs. Any donation will help. Thank you for any support you can give and your prayers!
