Hi, this is David Jin and Lucas Gu from HEVI. HEVI, a.k.a the Houseless Environmental Volunteers Initiative, aims to tackle both the housing problem and biodiversity decline in the Bay Area. HEVI was founded after we witnessed the severity of homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic. So, what do we do? HEVI offers homeless individuals the opportunity to work alongside high school volunteers for a $15/hour stipend while contributing to urban forest improvement. Examples of activities include tree planting, weed pruning, and mulching. After working with the program for a certain period of time, we provide letter of recommendations for the homeless in order to guide them towards self-sufficiency. We've proudly marked the planting of over 1,000 trees in San Jose and facilitated over 475 hours of employment for the houseless community. Furthermore, the initiative has successfully guided over 20 houseless volunteers toward full-time employment Although we're currently still a very small organization, we hope to fund more of these projects for the homeless; however, we can't do it without your support. We're asking for a small donation to HEVI's cause -- whatever you can spare -- and help us alleviate houselessness in the Bay Area. Thank you! By supporting this initiative, you will be both empowering unhoused individuals to regain stability and actively participating in the restoration of biodiversity.
