We are raising funds for the Toma family who have been struck by multiple tragedies in the last year. Despite what life has thrown at them they still remain positive and share their love and joy with all of those around them. Last year Tom and Paulin were looking to purchase a property to move into with their 5 children something they had been dreaming of for the last 3 years. Unfortunately, it was one incident after another which saw their dream taken away from them along with their life savings. Tom the provider for the house was at work, where he would give his life and soul to everyday of the week to provide for his family and save for the deposit before injuring his knee and requiring surgery. This was a major setback for the family and his working condition after suffering a major car accident 15 years ago which saw him lucky to be alive. Due to the extent of the injury, he was unable to work and lost his job and income in the process. In order to meet the rising cost of living and settle on their dream home Paulin went back to work to allow her husband time to recover. Unfortunately, tragedy stuck the family again with Paulin being diagnosed with breast cancer. Paulin required commenced treatment immediately whilst managing the household with her husband still recovering. This however took another turn when it was confirmed that the cancer had spread and both breasts were affected. Both parents now required surgery and their dream quickly turned into a nightmare when settlement came and were unable to facilitate the loan anymore with no income available. Despite their pleas to the developer, builder and lawyers for leniency and a refund on their deposit to cover medical expenses this was rejected. Their deposit/life savings on their home was taken away from them leaving them in financial turmoil and living off bare basics for them and their children. Despite all the heartache they had just endured, both parents continued to put on a brave face and proceeded on getting through this for their children. Paulin required a double mastectomy to remove all the cancer and plastic surgery to repair the extent of the damage after enduring a 15-hour surgery. Tom completed a knee reconstruction and despite the need for a long recovery, he was back on his feet within 4 weeks to care for his wife and 5 children. Both are now doing everything in their power to work and rebuild the foundations of their family. I can't begin to put into words what this family has gone through yet still manage to put a smile on their face every day. I know that we are all going through some financial heartache at the moment but any contribution would really help to get this family back on their feet and bring hope back into their lives!
