In March, our good friend and colleague, Sherina, was admitted to hospital with abdominal pain and was quickly diagnosed with appendicitis. Unfortunately, the scans also revealed a mass on her pancreas, resulting in a subsequent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, stage 2. The cancer progressed quickly and in April she was given a stage 4 diagnosis, with the cancer having metastasized to her liver, colon and peritoneal nodes, and advised the only treatment option available here was chemotherapy to prolong her life. Being the competent, determined and resourceful woman she is, Sherina immediately began researching alternative, private treatment options which led her to Mexico for care. Since receiving the diagnosis, Sherina and her family have fought hard and have made numerous trips to Mexico for cutting-edge medical treatments, all of which they’ve had to pay for out of pocket. They have accumulated $150,000 USD in medical bills thus far and there is still a long road to recovery ahead. Sherina is only 47 years old with so much to live for. She continues to show immense strength in her determination to fight to beat this disease. During this difficult time, we are hoping to support the family financially to help with these medical bills, as well as meals and other household tasks that are burdensome at this time. Anything helps and is so deeply appreciated.
