Hello, we are Nova & Ru❣️ Due to challenging circumstances, I am seeking support to help lift myself and my daughter out of a systemic loop I never imagined I’d be in, and will need financial support to overcome. Being employed as a foster carer for Bristol City Council, and self employed as a doula and holistic therapist, I have been working towards creating brighter futures for families and children. Since having my daughter in 2024, I am now currently parenting without a partner and have been unable to return to work full time after maternity leave due to injury, and no longer having a large enough property to continue my work as a foster carer. A challenging spinal injury earlier this year required time in hospital and has impacted my capacity to work and look after my daughter. The injury is thankfully improving but currently still needs some recovery time. In addition I am trying to finance the final year of a three year shamanic practitioner training which, once completed, enables me to offer this deeper scope of work with with clients, children and families onwards. As a single income family I am in a systemic housing loophole. Classed as a single income home I do not meet financial criteria to privately rent and secure the home I need to return to work. Currently single income families in the UK are asked to pay a fixed term payment of six months rent upfront through agencies to be able to move to a private property without meeting rental income criteria. Because having appropriate housing is what enables me to work full time, I will need to be able to first secure a property by paying upfront before I can return to being financially independent through fostering and self employed work. Exploring all options, and being highest band priority for government housing as a carer, the extent of the national housing crisis means it could be several years before an suitable home becomes available. To stay in the unsuitable two bedroom home my daughter and I live in now, we have had to pay the term upfront which we do not have finances to do again. Financial support will empower me to return to my work supporting other families, and provide the capacity for me to support myself independently. After a really challenging year, I look forward to receiving the support my family needs, and reciprocating what’s given back into my work with vulnerable children and families.
