The Sonnek family has started this Go Fund Me account to help our brother Dave as he recovers from a stroke. Dave wants to return to working, driving and living independently and has made great strides with physical and occupational therapy and now is focusing on speech therapy and follow-up doctor visits. We ask for your support because even with his insurance and with help from family, it has been, and will continue to be a hardship for Dave to pay his medical bills and expenses. In early May 2024, Dave had a stroke and after a second stroke while in the hospital, he was airlifted to Mayo/St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester. He spent 3 days in the ICU and then almost 4 weeks in the stroke and stroke rehab units at the hospital. Until he can live on his own again, Dave is living in St. Paul with his twin brother Doug and we are all doing our best to get Dave to his speech therapy and doctor appointments and to help with his expenses. Dave is a hard worker and prior to his strokes he was working at 3 different jobs to make a living, but he was not earning enough to build a savings account adequate to cover the huge financial burden he now faces. Dave would love nothing more than to return to his job at the Mapleton Post Office, his job as a school bus driver for Palmer Bus Service, and his job helping a local farmer. He misses being able to live independently at his apartment in Mapleton and spend time with his friends. As much as we are enjoying the extra time with him as he lives near us in St. Paul, we too can’t wait for him to be able to move back home. Dave’s dedication to getting better and his positive attitude during this challenging time are amazing. The funds we raise will help him to focus solely on his health without the added stress of medical bills and lost income. We humbly ask that you donate whatever you are able.
