I Am Losing My Mom to Dementia Dementia is a cruel disease.  Mom you are its victim; it snuck into your – no, our – lives and has taken over your mind and destroyed your physical capabilities. It has filled your family, the unsuspecting bystanders, with deep sadness. Our journey into the world of a dementia patient began long before your doctor visit. As you began each phase of the disease, totally unaware of what was happening to you, our awareness of dementia grew. Do you remember the days when the house filled with smoke and you had no idea how it happened? Do you remember the restless nights when you questioned everything?  Of course you don’t remember any of that.  But I remember that and more. I miss the days when the smell of your chocolate chip cookies filled the house. Mom just as you carried me through my childhood journey I will do everything I can to provide  you the best care on the rest of your journey. This terrible illness will never be able to take your true beauty.  ______________________________I recently learned that the Veterans Administration denied my mothers request for survivor benefits; my dad was in the Navy.  The VA assistance would have helped defer some of the $3500 monthly cost we pay for her nursing care.  The memory care facility she currently lives in offers 24 hour onsite staff to address all her needs; yes she required help with everything.  If you can afford a small donation to help us meet our goal until we can move her into a fully funded facility it would be greatly appreciated.Sincerely,Her One and Only Child Your help WOULD be GREATLY APPRECIATED.  Thank you!
