My name is Alex Srivastava, and I am a Life Scout at Troop 23 of Boy Scouts of America, in Tallahassee Florida. I have been with the troop for six years, and I am fundraising for my Eagle Scout project. My Eagle Scout project consists of building a GaGa ball pit (a sports facility) at Sabal Palm Elementary School. Sabal Palm is a Title 1 school located on the south side of Tallahassee, Florida. Title 1 schools are schools that have low economic opportunities and economically disadvantaged students. Because of this, the school does not have enough funds to purchase quality-of-life playground equipment like a GaGa ball pit. I chose to do my project at this school because they are Title 1, and because the faculty was very welcoming and helpful in getting my project set up. A GaGa ball pit is a wooden octagonal enclosure in which students can play a sport called GaGa ball. This sport is oriented toward elementary schoolers, so this project will match the school's age group perfectly. This pit will be very sturdy with little to no maintenance cost, so many generations of students will be able to enjoy it with little expense to the school. It will also be ADA and wheelchair accessible. The cost of this project is around $1800. This cost covers the materials and tools needed to assemble this pit. A majority of the cost will go into the wood and steel that will make up the pit. I will use any extra funds I receive to purchase kickballs and soccer balls for the students to enjoy apart from the pit. Update: Thank you for donating to my project! After two build days, the pit is finally ready for the kids to use. Here is a picture of the final pit.
