Final update September 23, 2024: My mom was finally able to see a toxicologist at UT Southwestern in Dallas, Texas September 21, 2024. The physician was able to give extremely knowledgeable information on cobalt toxicity from her knee implant, in a compassionate manner. Since another knee revision has been determined to be far too risky, and he explained IV chelation treatments have proven to be ineffective for cobalt, a plan of action has been individualized for her. She will need to have her cobalt blood level checked every six months from now on. He expects it to rise more as time goes on due to the corrosion of the soft tissue by the implant, releasing more metal ions into her bloodstream. He has given her a parameter to contact him again should it reach a particular level so they can check her organ functioning for complications, but we have high hopes that it will level out at some point. She is also to have an x-ray of her right knee every six months to check for any instability, or loosening of the implant, which would be disastrous, as well. Due to the combined situation and multiple procedures/surgeries on her knee, he cannot offer any specific treatment, but to treat complications if they arise. My mom has made the decision to continue to live her life and just monitor for problems and to deal with the pain in her knee and other symptoms by practicing a positive attitude, and of course giving her situation to God. Thank you to everyone who has been supportive and we would appreciate continued prayers. Update: My mom has continued to advocate for herself, searching for treatment for cobalt poisoning from her knee prosthetic. She has been in contact with 14 different physicians in seven states. After being rejected for care repeatedly UT Southwestern toxicology clinic has accepted her to be seen September 21, 2024. A toxicologist is the expert on poisons and poisonings. She has lost significant vision and suffered, a myocardial infarction this year secondary to the toxin in her body. Multiple orthopedics decline to remove the knee prosthetic since it has been determined the revision in 2024 had to use extensive bone cement to just hold her leg together since the botched surgery in 2019 was severe. We appreciate, continued prayers, and we thank you to each and everyone that has donated for her journey for treatment. We would be grateful for any additional contributions for medical expenses. My mom’s attitude is to stay strong and keep fighting.❣️ Hi, my name is Jennifer and I am fundraising for Angie Davis. My mom, Angie Davis has worked as an RN her entire career of 43 years toiling tirelessly to care for the sick, disabled and elderly. Her passion was rendering compassionate care as Director of Nurses in long-term care facilities. She excelled at teaching new nurses the art of nurturing the needy combined with superior skilled nursing tasks. She is currently 67 years old but retired at 62 due to a severe knee injury requiring several procedures and surgeries since 2019. Even though retirement should be the golden years she finds herself in need of help, this time since she lives on social security only. We had hoped she had conquered the devastating knee problem when a menagerie of unusual symptoms arose this last year in 2024. After seeing a multitude of Doctors she has been diagnosed with Metal (Cobalt) poisoning in her blood from her knee implant. Currently, it is affecting her vision which is decreasing rapidly and diminishing her thought processes along with intolerable knee pain much of the time. She experiences "chills" daily and extreme highs and lows with her thyroid hormone in addition to much more. Cobalt poisoning if left untreated can cause sudden death, liver, kidney and heart failure along with blindness and dementia which is irreversible. She has searched relentlessly in Oklahoma and Texas and has been denied treatment because Cobalt poisoning is so rare, it is out of the Doctors' scope of practice. My mom has been referred to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota for further evaluation and some feel it offers a little hope. Thus far, orthopedics have said it would be disastrous to take the current knee implant out. We firmly believe God is the Great Physician. However, she needs funds to travel to Minnesota from Oklahoma an unknown amount of times, along with lodging and growing medical expenses. She is not a quitter but needs help. My mom is deeply respected in our community and always puts the needs of others before herself. She raised 2 daughters, the youngest of which was ill and passed away in 2008 at the age of 27. Many refer to her as a "warrior woman" for surviving bizarre events as detailed in the two books she authored called "Entrapped...body, mind and Soul" and "In the Knick of Time" Her pen name is Cortney Lynn, for her safety. If you are able to donate any amount, it would be greatly appreciated, from our hearts! Thank You.
