Meet the incredible woman in the picture, Billie Douglas: my mother, my hero, and the guiding force for myself and my seven siblings. For over 30 years, my mother has selflessly served as a nurse, working tirelessly to save lives. She has overcome immense challenges, having been on her own since she was 15, and raising my older sister on her own at the age of 17. Despite facing countless obstacles, she has always managed to support her children, working long hours, night shifts, and even sacrificing holidays. Now, the years of devoted service have taken a toll on her health. Approximately 15 years ago, she underwent gastric band surgery to manage her weight while continuing her life-saving work in the ER. Sadly, this procedure is now posing a severe threat to her life. She is struggling to ingest and keep down any form of nourishment, even water causes painful reflux. With over 20 ulcers in her stomach and scar tissue in her lungs from frequent aspiration, her condition is becoming critical. I am terrified of losing my mother, my hero, and my siblings share the same fear. The mounting medical expenses have left her in significant debt. Despite her critical condition, she continues to work and provide for us. However, she cannot take the essential 6 weeks off for the necessary medical procedures without risking her home and our well-being. Your donation would cover her copay for the life-saving procedure, as well as assist with her bills and provide for our family during the 6-week recovery period.
