We're starting a movement. State Champs is the first of it’s kind sports coffee shop with a streetwear mentality built on inclusion and community. For sports fans, by sports fans. What is State Champs? State Champs is a brand inspired by the dedication and lifestyle of sports and the community it fosters. From the Friday Night Lights to the hardwood to the pitch, State Champs embodies the athletic, passionate, and dedicated nature of what it means to be a champion, literally and figuratively. Why a sports coffee shop? We want there to be more than one way to enjoy sports in your community. Today, if you want to go watch a game in a public setting – you go to a sports bar. We're flipping that idea on its head by creating a warm and inviting sports coffee shop with a streetwear mentality built with the community in mind. The State Champs vibe is part streetwear shop inspired by Fairfax in Los Angeles, part the coffee atmosphere of NE Portland plus the midwest charm of Ohio. Got it, now explain the streetwear mentality part. Streetwear and sports are both driven by community. Both of which bring people together, because of that our shop will not feel like the average coffee shop. It will be a mix of a streetwear atmosphere and sports memorabilia, think Sue Bird and Michael Jordan custom artwork on the wall next to a signed Dawn Staley Final Four t-shirt and a Jim Brown framed photo. The atmosphere will be warm and inviting with a black and white aesthetic. The "warmth" of the shop comes from the sports stories (memorabilia), our coffee, and our community. Why Ohio? Kent, much like the rest of Ohio, loves their sports. Kent is a college town just outside of Cleveland that feels like a little town in a big town kind of way. If you look around Kent you’ll usually find a student athlete or someone wearing a sports team name across their chest. Kent's proximity to Cleveland and college town atmosphere make it a perfect fit for our first location. Who are you? We're Cassy and Ally. Two folks with a love for sports, coffee, and streetwear. Cassy is a Kent State graduate with 8+ years experience in sales operations and retail logistics for brick and mortar retail. She's built, managed, and scaled sales teams across the Northeast Ohio area. Ally is a designer, marketer, and product manager who has built and scaled products in tech (see: startups) for the last 12 years. She previously worked in and invested in local coffee shops when she lived in California. Okay, but why State Champs? We want a safe place for folks to come and enjoy a great cup of coffee and sports. A place like this has never existed and we are excited to bring that to our community.
