Hi, everyone my name is Ira McKinley and I once again need help in creating a new documentary which would be the 3rd in the series about my life and how it connects with social justice. My first film was called The Throwaways and it dealt with my struggles of coming out of prison being homeless and how Mass Incarceration and Police Brutality made me want to show the world the struggle from my point of view. My last film Outta the Muck appears on Independent Lens PBS and tells the story of my families hometown of Pahokee Florida and all the historical events that have happened there from the Hurricane of 1928 in which Zora Neale Hurston wrote about in Their Eyes Where Watching God, to Edward R Murrows Harvest of Shame which tells the story of Migrant Workers and how my family arrived in New York and the Many NFL Players that have come from this area of Florida known as the Muck. This project is called The Tale of Two Journeys where we will be exploring the exodus of the Southern Black's to the north in two different centuries mainly during Slavery and the Jim Crow era's. The cities we will be documenting is Rochester ( Fredrick Douglas, Susan B Anthony ) Auburn ( Harriet Tubman) Ithaca ( Alex Haley ) Elmira ( Mark Twain ) plus Seneca Falls ( Women's Movement ). We have the help of many Historical Socities in these cities plus access to The George Eastman House archives. This fundraiser is for the research process to get the film started. I need help with Lodging, Food and Travel for this preproduction work and you guys can help me get it start it with your donations. By helping with this you will get a credit in the film as research assistant and assistant producer of research. I need this to make a short film so that I can pitch to funders to create the main production.
