Spirit Walls is an annual public art project and skill-sharing workshop started by local artist and muralist Brian Gonnella in 2017. It was created as a platform to increase the visibility of street art in Pittsburgh and give emerging artists from other disciplines a chance to work in a large-scale format alongside professional street artists. The mural is a week-long collaborative project in which artists plan and paint a mural on the parking lot wall of Spirit Hall in Lawrenceville. The new mural debuts at Spirit's annual Summer Recess, an end-of-summer street festival with 1000+ attendees that includes food vendors, live music and more. Artists are provided a cash stipend for their work and given vending perks at Summer Recess. Materials are provided through generous donations by local businesses and community groups. Your contribution as a sponsor will help sustain the long-term viability of Spirit Walls, which goes towards supporting and encouraging public art in the city and providing a valuable resource for artists to foster community by teaching each other a lucrative trade skill in a collaborative setting.
