My sweet son Simon was born with profound medical complications. As a result of congenital hydrocephalus, a brain disorder, he was born three months early. He endured six brain surgeries, a heart surgery and a gastric surgery which involved his spending his first five months at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. Simon suffered severe brain damage which has left him with many challenges and disabilities. He is blind, can not talk, walk, crawl or even eat enough to sustain himself without the use of a feeding tube.Simon is a real trooper and, despite his challenges, is for the most part a happy three and a half year old. He loves music and playing many instruments in his own unique way. He also adores cats and dogs. As Simon grows bigger it becomes increasingly difficult to care for him. He will soon be too big to lift and our home will need substantial modifications to accommodate his needs. We will have to remodel our bathroom, a number of doorways and the entrances to our home to be wheelchair accessible. We will also need to acquire a wheelchair accessible van.Like any parent, I just want what is best for my son. In Simon’s case this happens to require many special considerations and a number of unusual modifications to our home. I am asking for help with the expense of these modifications so that Simon can continue to live in our home. Any contributions will be greatly appreciated and will be used for Simon’s accessibility needs and ongoing care.Thank you so much for your kindness and support,Cristin
