Seylah is our granddaughter who was born 7 weeks premature on June 30, 2024. #seylahstrong Join Seylah’s Facebook page Seylah Strong to follow her progress Kamryn, Seylah’s mom was taken to a local hospital on June 26th in severe pain. The hospital determined she was dilated to 3 cm and the ultrasound showed baby Seylah’s heart was abnormal. Due to the heart complications Kamryn was transported to WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital in Morgantown WV. Baby Seylah was given steroid shots to develop her lungs and Kamryn was monitored closely by doctors. Even though they wanted Seylah to remain in the womb as long as possible labor kept progressing for Kamryn. Due to Kamryn continuing to dilate and leaking amniotic fluid Seylah was born on June 30, 2024, weighing 3lbs 14oz. Having a baby born seven weeks early is very concerning for young first time parents. But having a baby born with multiple heart defects makes life even harder. Multiple echocardiograms determined that Seylah’s little heart had two holes and her aorta was not formed correctly. Seylah was diagnosed with ASD (atrial septal defect), VSD (ventricular septal defect), and an interrupted aortic arch. Doctors wanted Seylah to remain stable and grow to an acceptable size for the surgeries she would need to endure. Seylah was being monitored closely and things were going well until the morning of July 6th. On the morning of July 6th Seylah skin color was a whitish grey color which caused doctors to run multiple test to see what was happening. The tests showed that her heart was pumping the majority of her blood to her lungs and not to the rest of her body. The doctors only had one option to save her life. The surgery was very risky but it was the only option. She was only given a 10% chance that she would survive the surgery. The doctors were placing small mesh plugs in specific areas to help disburse the blood to her whole body. Seylah survived the surgery like a real warrior. After the surgery Seylah was sedated so she could rest while she started to heal. She was placed on a breathing tube to assist with her breathing, had a feeding tube and several monitors. Seylah made it through the night and is getting stronger everyday. Seylah’s mom and dad live about 2hrs away from the hospital and are incurring the cost of a hotel, travel, food and medical bills. Not to mention their rent and monthly expenses. Seylah will have several more surgeries in the future and will be in the NICU for an undetermined amount of time. This young family need all the love, prayers, support and donations they can get. #Seylahstrong Thank you!
