Hi everyone. I ask you please take the time to read..this could be any of us. Let me tell you a little about the Goon family who is very dear to a lot of our hearts. The family is originally from Maryland and moved to Gulf Shores Alabama 6 years ago. Three older children still reside in other states. Matt, Kims's husband went into early retirement due to health issues, and he also cared for Kim's elderly Dad as he needed supervision. The move allowed them to calm their pace and enjoy life a bit more. Matt and Kim just celebrated 33 years of marriage, they were high school sweethearts! They have 4 children and Kim is an interior house painter. Fast forward to today. Matt's health issues have dramatically declined over the past 2 years. The family knew he might have future heart issues, but he also went into kidney failure. The doctors recommended that Matt be evaluated for a heart and kidney transplant. During the evaluation, the doctors realized that the heart failure was much more advanced than expected. He was admitted to the heart and lung transplant center at UAB in Birmingham Alabama 5 weeks ago. He is currently still there awaiting a double transplant and will have to remain there until a donor is found. Due to Kim's profession, she is unable to work. For Matt to receive a transplant she is required to be in Birmingham the entire time. Once the transplant takes place they are required to live in Birmingham for an additional 8-12 weeks. Due to back-and-forth travel, monthly household bills, medical bills, a daughter entering her first year in college and their oldest son getting married, this family could really use your help. It would allow them to focus on time together and not finances. Anything you might consider contributing is greatly appreciated!
