For our birthdays (Daniel’s is August 1st and mine is August 8th), Daniel and I are asking for donations towards our adoption. Many of you gave so generously when we did our puzzle fundraiser and we are so grateful!!! We raised almost $15,000 with that fundraiser! We would not trespass on your generosity again unless we needed to. The estimated cost for our adoption is $68,500. Half of this amount was due immediately when we found out we were matched. The other half will be due when baby is born. $50,000 of this is the agency fee. The other $18,500 goes towards living and medical expenses for birth mom. This number does NOT include the following… - The few thousand dollars we have already spent on our home study, consultant fees, clearances, etc. - $2,000 that we will need to spend to renew our home study in order for baby to come home. - Travel costs for us to fly to and from Utah for baby’s birth and to rent a hotel room or Airbnb for 1-2 weeks until we are cleared to bring baby home. - Any unexpected medical costs for birth mom or baby. - Retaining a lawyer in Utah and additional fees associated with finalizing the adoption. All in all, we are looking at a total of around $80,000. This far exceeds any amount we planned for when we began this process. When we were originally asked what our adoption budget was we said $40,000-$50,000. We quickly realized that this wasn’t going to be realistic. The vast majority of the cases we were presented with had estimated costs between $60,000-$80,000. And as shown above, this doesn’t even include many of the other expenses associated with adoption. I could get on my soap box about how I believe the adoption process in the US is in desperate need of change… but for now Daniel and I are trusting that God will provide and relying on the kindness and generosity of our community. We have applied for several adoption grants to try and receive financial help, but have not been awarded any of them. We are continuing to search for more grants to apply for and we do plan to take out low interest loans if necessary. We are so grateful for any support you can give us, whether that simply be prayers or financial help. Thank you so much!!!
