My very dear friend Rigo is fighting for his life, he has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of Leukemia. What began with mild symptoms of tiredness and fatigue, he then began unable to catch his breath. On July 17th, 2024, he was rushed to the emergency room. At the ER they then told us he needed a blood transfusion and they sent his labs to the oncologist and pathologist because they believed it was Leukemia (blood and bone marrow cancer). They transferred him to St Francis Hospital the next morning here in Wichita Ks where the oncologist was waiting for Rigo's arrival. The oncologist confirmed Rigo has Leukemia, to determine the type they performed a bone marrow biopsy. It is confirmed Rigo has AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) it's a very rapid and aggressive form. Later we learn the subtype he has is AMML (Acute Myelogenous Leukemia) this type is very rare and even more rapid. We are still waiting for the genetic testing from the biopsy to determine if it has mutated. On July 19th, 2024 the doctors and medical team came in to tell us they would like to stabilize his white blood cells enough so he can travel home to Venezuela. I knew sending him home to Venezuela would mean the end of his life. I ask why? Why can't we treat him, please? The Dr said "What would you like me to do he needs a transplant, where will the money come from, where will we find a donor" After a lot of tears and unpleasant words, the Dr said I'll treat you, if you want to fight I will treat you. Rigo began chemo only five hours later. While Rigo is fighting for his life we are desperately trying to find funding, we need help for his medical expenses desperately. And funding for an immigration attorney to get his daughters a humanitarian visa. Rigo and Yliana NEED their daughters here! Rigo and Yliana are 2,799 miles away from home, away from all their friends and family. Most importantly away from their two young daughters who are only 10 and 12 years old. There isn't a world without each other. Rigo and Yliana are here visiting James and me in the United States. They are not just friends to us they are family, and I can't imagine a world without them. I honestly don't feel deserving of their love and friendship sometimes, they are what's wonderful in this world! Please pray, pray for Rigo, pray we get Rigo his bone marrow transplant, pray we can reunite the girls with their parents. We will try to keep everyone updated on his journey. Any donations will go directly to Rigo and Yliana, the funds will be used for his medical expenses, chemo, transplant, medications and an immigration attorney to bring their daughters here. A huge thank you in advance!
