On September 10, 2015 our dear friend Gwen, was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. This was a total shock to all her close friends and family.  Fortunately she was told her prognosis is positive and we have no doubt she will come through this fight stronger than ever. With that said, the road ahead will definitely be a challenge. Gwen will be getting her treatment through City of Hope. Her doctors said she has “Malignant Neoplasm of an unspecified site of the breast.” They recommend undergoing Chemotherapy first since the mass is quite large. They hope this will shrink the mass. After a round of Chemo (4 ½ months) she will undergo surgery. After surgery she will more than likely undergo Radiation. It is still undecided if she will have a Lumpectomy or Mastectomy. This will depend on Genetic testing results. The emotional and financial burden of her fight will be a challenge to say the least but what makes things worse is that she also struggles with Type 1 Diabetes and is a single mom. Gwen has devoted her whole life to helping people. She was blessed to graduate from USC with a Sociology Degree. From there she held jobs as a Preschool teacher and Early Intervention worker. Her focus was children with disabilities ages 0-3 as well as children with Autism. She now works as a Social Worker for adults with disabilities. Gwen has always had big heart and has always put everyone’s needs before her own, especially her own children. Unfortunately her own health would take a back seat and she has been hospitalized a few times because of Diabetes complications. At this point, she has a great attitude and is ready to fight this battle. However, her biggest fear is how she will continue to care for her kids and keep their lives as normal as possible. As many of you know, Gwen is the most caring, outgoing, wacky, fun loving, soccer mom, baseball mom, PTA mom, Little League Board member mom, and all around greatest woman that I know and I am sure you all agree that she deserves all our love and support now. This is where you and this fund come in. Right now, the out of pocket deductible needs to be paid off before she is allowed to start treatment. ($1200). The medical bills will add up and we are reaching out our network of family and friends to help. Any donation is greatly appreciated and will be a huge help to Gwen. A few examples of what the funds raised through this site will be used for:   -Out of Pocket treatment costs (chemo, radiation, other medications, as needed)  -Bills and expenses that will add up while Gwen is out of work-Transportation costs associated with getting her kids to school, after school activities, as well as overall care for her children -Any other unanticipated costs that come along with this fight Please also note that any funds collected that Gwen does not end up needing to cover the costs outlined above will be promptly donated to causes that help the others battling Cancer and Diabetes. Thank you in advance for your kindness and support!
