Hi, we’re the Hoffman family! At age 11, Sammie began a huge health battle. She saw 15 different specialists here in Las Vegas, had extensive invasive tests, and multiple hospital visits before they were able to diagnose her with 2 autoimmune diseases and scoliosis of the spine. One of the autoimmune diseases, called Lipoatrophic panniculitis, is so rare that there have only been 17 cases of it in the world. The disease ate away at fatty tissue in multiple areas throughout her legs causing pain, weakness and permanent atrophy. Physical therapy and medication helped her to walk again, but it was not without relapse, and she never fully recovered. Sammie woke up one morning this past October with pain again and unable to stand up on her own two feet. It seemed she was having a relapse, but through once again going to multiple specialists in multiple states, it has been determined that something different is attacking her body. By February she was too weak even in her upper body to scoot up the stairs to her bedroom. She has been bound to the couch for sleeping and a wheelchair to go out of the house. They are still trying to find answers so we can get her proper treatment. We are fighting an ongoing battle between traditional medicine and experimental procedures to help her find relief and improvement. All of which is very expensive and not covered by insurances. Sammie is the oldest of five siblings. The process of hospital visits, testing, and treatment has cost our family a lot and taken a toll. In the pursuit to seek medical answers, we have exhausted all savings, have medical bills piling up, and have taken on second and third jobs above our small business just to take care of our family of seven. We are extremely humbled and grateful for your support!
