Hi there! First of all, thank you for taking the time to visit this page and considering making a donation. My name is Allie and I am Rylie's older sister. Our best girl, that many know as "RK", is headed back to the great state of Rhode Island. This will be her second surgery with the world renown neurosurgeon, Dr. Petra Klinge. As many of you might remember Rylie had her second tethered chord surgery in Rhode Island with Dr. Klinge last year that was extremely successful. When we originally met with Dr. Klinge she felt this was the "Part 1" surgery of a two part series. "Part 2" would be a revision of Rylie's chiari malformation. In a very summed up version- Rylie had her first chiari decompression surgery in the beginning of August of 2017 with her neurosurgeon here in California. We saw a lot of improvement initially but many symptoms (her lack of balance, a really bad gag reflux, and a lot of throwing up when she lays down) have come back. Her neurosurgeon here feels they have done all they can to decompress the chiari area, and relieve the crowding and pressure that is pressing down on her cerebellum and brain stem... BUT, Dr Klinge feels she can successfully decompress her Chiari by using a bit of a different technique and using a prosthetic piece of bone to help hold up the cerebellum and relieve the pressure on her brain stem. So... with a lot of prayer, consideration, and discussion my parents have decided to move forward with a second Chiairi Decompression in Rhode Island with Dr. Klinge. As of right now, things are moving much faster than we initially anticipated! They will be flying out at the end of August for a pre-op appointment on August 28th with a possible surgery date of August 29th (if the 29th doesn't work out they will have to come home and go back in the early fall). We are full of hope and anticipation for this second surgery with Dr. Klinge. My parents would go to ends of this world for their girl to have the absolute BEST care and outcome but the travel expenses for a trip like this is ALOT. Rylie will have to stay in Rhode Island for at least 3/4 weeks after surgery before she is able to fly home. The housing options are limited and expensive so I am starting this page to help relieve the cost of travel and housing while they are away from home❤️ Thank you so SO much in advance for your generous donations!! We will keep everyone posted with any new updates as we get closer to surgery day. Much Love, Allie
