UPDATE from Danielle (7/27/23): It’s now been 23 days since Ryan’s accident and 21 days since Ryan has been ventilated. It’s so hard to process that he was talking, texting, and doing whatever the nurses asked right before his surgery. We are so thankful that we all said “ I love you” right before he was wheeled into the OR. However, right now we are desperately looking forward to when he will be able to talk again. Ryan is working so hard at healing from his muscular, skeletal, and internal injuries. We keep hearing things like “thank goodness he had a helmet on”, "thank goodness he’s young,” and the hardest one, “this is going to take time in the hospital and after.” While necessary, time on a ventilator is not ideal. The medical staff know this and collaborate together to make strides. Right now they are managing so much for his body to heal and come out of sedation. We see bits of progress. We have been talking to Ryan all day/every day until we are made to leave the hospital. We see his eyes open, his brow furrow and his eyebrows lift. Each day we know he’s slowly coming out of the paralytic and heavy sedation. We are asking for positive thoughts and prayers specifically for a big holistic stride in healing. We are thankful for the little wins he and his medical team achieve but would love to see more consistent healing each day. Again, it’s going to take time. Thank you so much for your non-stop support. You all have gone above and beyond helping our family. Prayers mean the world to us as we are at the mercy of our GREAT healer and the hardworking medical staff’s capabilities. You all have been encouraging our family to stay strong. We are staying solid because of your love and kindness. We are FOREVER GRATEFUL. "So do not fear, for I am with you, do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." - Isaiah 41:10 UPDATE from Danielle (7/19/23): We would like to see bigger progress but again it’s not our timing. We need continued prayers for Ryan’s injuries, heart, lungs, and other internal organ functions. I think it’s starting to sink in for me as his wife that this is a beyond EPIC battle. We are operating minute to minute and it’s so hard to explain or update. Also, that it may take months and/or years for Ry to recover from this accident. However, his entire medical team is collaborating and rallying their great minds in order to help Ryan fight this battle. I appreciate their intelligence, experience, constant curiosity, and commitment to our big guy. I keep finding myself leaning on this verse: So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10 THANK YOU for your thoughts, prayers, comfort, support, and generosity. You are keeping our family lifted up during this time. We are beyond appreciative of the outpouring of generosity from everyone on the Go Fund Me. You are truly blessing our family as we are going through this difficult time. You are inspirational. ORIGINAL MESSAGE: Our dear friend Ryan Baumunk was in a terrible quad accident on the Fourth of July. He is now in the intensive care unit at Sutter Roseville. His family and friends are heartbroken to see him suffering and are doing everything possible to support him, Danielle, and their three children during this difficult time. Ryan is kind, generous, and a bundle of fun. He is a well-loved member of our community and is always ready to help those around him. He was quick to open his property to those evacuating from the Caldor Fire and has worked as a volunteer firefighter/EMT for the Diamond Springs Fire Department. He coached Little League and volunteers his time at Union Mine FAA events. And although he would prefer to be the one lending a helping hand, this time, he & his family are the ones that could use the community's support. Ryan's tragic accident necessitated a Life Flight to the nearest trauma unit. He suffered a list of horrific injuries, including a broken collar bone, a broken scapula, many broken ribs on both sides, crushed and broken bones in one foot, an injured spleen, an injured pancreas, and injury to his lungs. Ryan underwent a seven-hour surgery to attach metal plates to the injured bones. Ryan has a long road to recovery and will be out of work for the foreseeable future. He will require extensive medical treatment, including respiratory therapy, intense physical rehabilitation, and other ongoing care to help him recover. Through all the pain, true to his nature, Ryan is earning the admiration of his medical staff. They love his fun spirit and his willingness to push through difficult procedures. He has a wonderful attitude of gratitude and wants to get better. Although, he is currently intubated and under heavy sedation, so he can heal from a very lengthy surgery, we know that Ryan is pushing through the pain and discomfort to do what's best for his body. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a difference to Ryan and his family. Your support will help cover the medical bills, transportation, and other expenses that Ryan and his family will incur in the coming weeks and months. We are grateful for any support you can provide, and we thank you for your kindness and generosity during this difficult time. Please keep Ryan and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this challenging journey.
