Hi, my name is Ryan Fletcher and I have been lucky enough to secure a ballot place on the 2024 London Marathon. This event is something I have wanted to do for many years but never plucked the courage to even apply. Now I have a reason to do this! For those that know me, know that I am quite a keen runner but I have never ran anything more than a half marathon before. I have set goals for this race but main aim is to finish this knowing I did it for a important cause. The main reason for doing this particular event is due to unfortunately losing my Dad to cancer in 2024, when he was just 45 years old. Dad was a very sporty man who also loved living life to its fullest and always smiling. He enjoyed many sports but also enjoyed running as a hobby. He sometimes would just grab his shoes and just get out when he could. He would always say it was his best medicine. When he got ill and spending as much time as we could, although it was never enough, we would often joke about just grabbing our shoes and going for a run. Also, next year, Dad would've turned 50 in February. I could think of no other way of celebrating my Dad's life by doing something as challenging as this. London Marathon was always something in the back of my mind and I remember clearly saying to him that one day I will do it and he will be there. I also go on record saying that, when the kids get older and life gets a tad easier, I will go for it but why wait for the easy route! London Marathon is one of the most popular races to do and I want to push myself but also I want to give back to those who helped my family and more importantly, helped my Dad. So, Do you want to join me in making a difference? I'm raising money in aid of Firefly Cancer Awareness and Support and every donation will help. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me and my family. Dad was always really appreciative of their support.
