You never know when a life altering event will happen unexpectedly, especially when you are younger.Ryan was out with some friends at a local music event, and after having a few too many, he decided to just walk home instead of drive . When he arrived about a block from his home, he stepped off the curb on 5th and Cherry and misjudged the distance and angle of the pavement below. The sheer force and angle of the impact caused his femur to split in half. Unable to move from the wet, cold pavement and his cell phone sitting right out of arms reach in the center of the road, all Ryancould do is yell and beg for help until a neighbor came outside and called him an ambulance. Back in the hospital, Dr Yee at Olympic Medical Center performed the emergency surgery to install a titanium rod inside Ryan's broken femur, and it was an amazing success. The next step is a painful and challenging schedule of intense physical therapy at Sequim Health & Rehab. This process could take anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks before Ryan is able to even begin walking a little on his own, much less consider a labor intensive job right away. He has health insurance to cover all medical costs, but has no income to support basic living costs such as rent, food, utilities, or phone/internet. If he could just hang in there for this few week period, he could apply to Peninsula College and work for his first AA degree, that is his goal, trying to get things figured out so he can provide for himself & his son.
