It was March 26, 2024 when I learned of my triple negative breast cancer diagnosis, just one day past my 38th birthday. Being a Registered Nurse only served me so far on the bumpy road that would lie ahead. The aggressive nature of the cancer and treatments did not allow me to continue working, so I was forced to take a leave of absence greatly impacting the financial status of myself and family. This leave of absence makes me personally responsible for paying my own/children’s insurance premiums, priced at greater than $500/monthly. My treatment plan included 6 months of aggressive chemotherapy with a price tag of greater than $100,000 per treatment. In addition to chemotherapy I have undergone multiple surgeries including port placement, double mastectomy, and transplantation of my abdomen to chest for breast reconstruction (DIEP flap). As anyone can imagine, the cost of the surgeries alone is well in excess of $1 million dollars and though I’ve done my best to keep my head above water, I’m not to proud to recognize when/where help is necessary. If you find it in your heart to assist, know no donation is too small. Funds raised will go toward medical/travel expenses as I am receiving the majority of my care out of state at MD Anderson Cancer Center I’m Houston, TX. Even if you can’t give, I ask that you share this fundraiser so that it may reach anyone who can. A million thanks, Jasmine
