My name is Melkitu Keno Hunde and I am from Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia. My friends call me Melka. I am 51 years old and have been in the United States for 5 years working as a caregiver for the elderly and disabled. I have been sending money back to Ethiopia to care for my family and trying to save money in hopes of bringing them to the United States one day. I have been married to my husband, Tamene, for 22 years. We adopted our son, Beki, when he was 3 years old because his parents couldn't take care of him. We also adopted our daughter, Koket, after her mother passed away delivering twins. Unfortunately, my husband, who was a high school history teacher, had an accident 3 years ago. He was hit by a car while riding a motorcycle and broke his leg. Since he has diabetes milletus, his wound didn't heal and he had continuous infections, resulting in 5 surgeries. This left him unable to move and work, which has affected his ability to care for our children. Two years ago he suffered a stroke and was hospitalized for more than two months. My husband's condition and my being away from my children for 5 years, has affected their psychological wellness. My daughter, Koket, is now 15 years old and my son, Beki, is 16. I have missed them terribly and have worked in the US to support them and my husband since he is no longer able to work due to the stroke. So, I have decided to return to Ethiopia to care for my husband and children. Many have questioned why I would want to return to such harsh conditions in Ethiopia when life is easier and more comfortable in the United States. But I must go for the sake of my husband and children. This is where I need your help. When I return to Ethiopia, I won't have a source of income until I can find employment. Ethiopia is currently in a civil war and finding a job is very difficult. I am trusting that God will provide for me, but I need assistance for my family to survive. My husband has ongoing medical expenses, the children have expenses for their education, we need transportation, and we need housing to accommodate our family. I will do my best to find work and support my family but I need your support to help me until I can do so fully. I know I am taking a risk going back, but I have prayed and feel this is what God wants me to do for my family. If you can't support my family financially at this time, would you please at least pray for us and our situation? Noble Staley, a pastor at my church in Carbondale, Illinois called Vine Church, is helping manage my LFEBridge account and will assure that all money donated will be given to me. Thank you for your consideration and prayers.
