Hello! My name is Angee, and this is my husband and best friend Randall. We are high school sweethearts and have been together for almost 13 years. Randall was born with a rare heart defect that resulted in him receiving a heart transplant at 7 weeks old. He has had the same heart for 30 years. In 2013, not long after we met, Randall developed cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV). This meant that someday Randall would need a new heart. For the last 10 years, Randall has continued to live a healthy, normal life with few complications, receiving 9 stents in the main arteries in his heart. In April of this year, Randall was flown to UVA. He was very sick and struggling to breathe. We soon learned that he had pneumonia. The need for oxygen put a lot of stress on his heart, which resulted in heart failure. He stayed in the hospital for two weeks, and his doctors were growing very concerned. We then began discussing a possible re-transplant. Randall started showing improvement in the three months after the event, and we tried our hardest to carry on with normal living. The doctors were still thinking a transplant was in his future and an ICD. We continued preparing to move to a new town, I was getting ready to go to JMU, and Randall was looking forward to going back to work (as he has been on disability). Shortly after we moved, Randall started experiencing chest pains. Another trip to UVA revealed that the CAV progressed significantly. It became very clear. Randall needs a new heart. As of Tuesday, August 1st, Randall was listed as status 4 for retransplant. While Randall is waiting for a new heart, he will remain on disability. I will still be pursuing my degree, working part-time and continuing to care for Randall. We are asking for your help because we need all the support we can get.
