My friend, Brother in Blue and past roommate, Rafael Castellanos (RMA ’85) arrived in United States with his wife in June 2015. He came to the United States seeking political asylum, fleeing persecution by the current Venezuelan government; simply because he has not been willing to support said government’s “political activities”.The plight Rafael and his family have endured is not for the weak of heart. He has come to the US seeking the same freedoms and opportunities that everyone is in search of; and his children still remain in Venezuela with relatives, waiting for the opportunity to be pulled out. Rafael has sought the correct path in order to try and remain legally and permanently in the US; but the issue here is hiring a immigration lawyer to ensure Rafael and his wife can follow the asylum process properly and correctly. Lawyers cost money, and the money they managed to bring with them, has been exhausting at a very fast rate. Since Rafael and his wife arrived to the US as tourists, they cannot legally work until their asylum petition is ongoing and a work permit is issued. This is the reason why I have put together this Go Fund Me account, to try and help out a fellow brother, who has been through more than anyone can imagine. Several other Brothers in Blue are aware of Rafael’s hardship and trying to help with the resources needed to move forward. Timing is of the essence here. Any donation will be greatly appreciated and will be used for food, shelter and legal assistance while Rafael and his wife are here in the US.I thank you in advance for your consideration.Steve Van De KrekeRMA ’86
