Hi Everyone, This is Lee Anderson the owner of Radio Bean and Light Club Lamp Shop. As many of you are already aware (for the first time in 23 years) Radio Bean was recently broken into and robbed. Money and other business property was stolen and damaged as well as two expensive pieces of gear belonging to DJ Taka ($9k). Taka is an ‘independent contractor’ who owns his gear and business, which unfortunately means this will not be covered by our insurance. This is heartbreaking and unfortunate, to say the least. Additionally, this comes at a time of incredible financial stress for The Bean which has pushed us to a near breaking point and facing possible closure. Several factors led to this but nothing more than the fact that there’s a near monopoly on liability insurance coverage for bars/venues in Vermont. The main reason for this is Vermont's alcohol 'Dram Shop' laws which makes most insurance companies not willing to do business here because it's too 'risky'. Therefore the one company that is willing to cover venues like The Bean can charge whatever they choose, and no surprise they choose to charge a LOT, raising their rates by tens of thousands of dollars every year. It’s not sustainable. It's a big problem. It’s certainly not lost on me or Taka that creating a crowd-sourced financial campaign at this time, when so much flood recovery is needed, is untimely. I wouldn’t be putting this out there if it wasn’t necessary. The Bean has been through some tight spots over the past 23 years and I've pulled a lot of rabbits out of a lot of hats to make it happen, but just to be clear, without support right now we won't make it. The first $9k raised will go directly to replacing Taka’s gear. Anything additional will go to supporting Radio Bean. Please share this. Thank you. Lee
