Hello, my name is Sam. I'm not very good at asking for help and deeply humbled and grateful for any assistance! I am a paraplegic as a result of a motorcycle accident and after 37 years my body has taken a lot of wear and tear because my arms and shoulders doing double duty. I also have other health issues that are affecting my ability to lift myself in and out of any vehicle. It has greatly affected my quality of life as I'm not able to get to Dr appointments or other appointments and places such as grocery shopping and visiting family and friends. I have always been very independent and enjoyed my ability to take care of myself. Transportation services where I live is very limited and difficult to get. It is beginning to become depressing being stuck at home when being used to go when needed. The process of and cost of buying an accessible vehicle is far more complicated than I had expected and very expensive! Used vans are between 50 & 60,000. then it must be fitted with special equipment to fit me i.e., special seat, hand controls and steering collum adjustments which add another $10,000 +. It has to be purchased from a specialized dealership meaning it may be from anywhere in the country adding transportation and delivery cost ??? then taxes. Any additional funds would help maintain and cover unexpected expenses. Thank you for your time and consideration!
