We need your help! Please help us preserve & protect the rural character and charm of Castleton Vermont! Did you know Castleton zoning changed in February 2024? The building above could come to any RR2 (rural residential 2 acre minimum) zoned property anywhere in Castleton! We are a group of Castleton Vermont residents opposed to development of projects of this size and magnitude which includes the 'Sand Hill Road Project'. The Castleton Development Review Board (DRB) approved the project minus the proposed memory care two times. The developers appealed the DRB decision to the VT Environmental Court. It was at this point we as a collective concerned group sought and paid for legal representation. The Environmental Court denied summary judgement to the developer's (yeah!) and now the proceedings will go on to the next level, ultimately headed for trial. We are seeking YOUR donations to help cover the legal fees to continue fighting to preserve and protect rural Castleton and our quality of life. We have already personally spent $10,000. To be clear, we are NOT opposed to development on this parcel of land, or to properly sized/scaled developments. We are opposed to THIS building! Look at the picture above! That building does NOT belong on Sand Hill Road, or anywhere in Castleton! The building is four stories and twice the footprint of Hoff Hall on the Castleton Campus (the new dorm by the Spartan Stadium). All donations will be used to cover legal fees through the Environment Court process and then ACT 250 if needed. Any remaining funds will be donated to Castleton Recreation. Thank you for your support! We are fighting the fight to preserve our small Vermont town landscape, farms, and scenery!
