Jared and Diana Pourciau are expecting to welcome a beautiful baby girl, Violet Grace, in early October 2024. Their 3 year old son, DJ can’t wait to meet his baby sister and “tickle her feet”! At their 20 week anatomy scan, baby Violet was diagnosed with suspected congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Maternal fetal medicine doctor soon confirmed the diagnoses of severe left congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). Left sided CDH is a “hole” or hernia on the left side of the diaphragm which has allowed her organs (stomach, bowels, liver) to move up into her chest cavity where her heart is supposed to be. The organs have pushed her heart to the opposite side of her body. The organs are pushed against her lungs allowing minimal growth. They were told this occurs in approximately 1 in 2500 live births and would require surgery and treatment out of state. They were referred to Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. Jared and Diana spent two days in Houston for additional testing and consults with CDH specialists. They found out that Violet has a very severe case of CDH and also has a benign tumor on her left lung called a “CPAM”. With her already severe case of CDH, the tumor isn’t helping with her lung development. They were also informed that she has a suspected hypoplastic transverse arch and a possible interrupted aortic arch in her heart. She has a 60 percent chance of survival. She will need surgery shortly after birth to move her heart and organs in their appropriate place and to patch the hernia. She may also require ECMO. It is unknown at this time if or when she will require heart and lung surgery. She will spend approximately 2-3 months or longer in the NICU. They were advised to relocate to Houston at 32 weeks pregnant for weekly checks. Due to the CDH diagnosis, these babies produce more than usual amniotic fluid which may have to be drained to prevent preterm labor. Weekly ultrasounds until birth would be required for baby and mom’s safety. In the event of preterm labor, they will need to be in close proximity of the hospital. They are in need of your help financially due to the cost of relocating, medical bills and the cost of bills at home in Baton Rouge. They believe that God is going to provide a way for them financially and spiritually through this journey. Thank you for your donations and prayers for this family.
