Hello Everyone my name is Jamie Cossette. I am asking for any help and assistance to help Bambi Vazquez and Family She is going through one of the hardest things a mother has to go through. This is for her 20 year old son Javier Vazquez. Here is a short version of what happened to him. On the Evening of June 16th 2024 Javier, his Brother Jason, and their Best friend Travis were all run down while they were driving their motorcycles on New Haven Road in Naugatuck. I will never forget the sound of their mother Bambi’s voice screaming on the phone “The Boys were ran down on their bikes Please come here fast” I will never get the pictures of the boys laying on the ground while everyone was rushing to try to save their lives while I tried to keep their mother calm. They were joy riding that evening and they happened to be on the same stretch of road where my Job was and their mother happened to be bringing me dinner to work at that moment. Just as she was pulling into my jobs driveway Her phone rang and it was her son Jason telling her “we got hit on our bike and they are not breathing!!” She rushed to the scene as I followed not far behind her. She was one of the first on the scenes and had to assist in life saving measures for two out of the three boys while waiting for what seemed like forever for EMS to arrive and take over. We are so Thankful that her son Jason walked away with major road rash, bumps and bruises However the other two boys were not so lucky. Their best friend lost his life that night and Javier has been in the Surgical ICU at Yale New Haven Hospital for the last two weeks in a coma. He was sent there from Waterbury hospital almost immediately after they got him to the hospital. They worked for hours to get him stable. Mom and his youngest sister have been at his bedside every day since it happened as well as many family and friends. She has been staying at a hotel out in New Haven the last two weeks and we had a meal train and donations set up for them to help with food and minor costs but now the costs and bills are starting to roll in and are really taking a toll. Javier has insurance through moms job however there is a $20,000 deductible before insurance will kick in. Mom is currently using her PTO time at work and will hopefully be able to get FMLA after all that is used up. He has already had quite a few surgeries for a broken jaw, his left leg that had broke in a bunch of different places, he has had a Trach placed for the ventilator and still needs to have surgery for his ankle as well as a feeding tube to be placed. He had to have a craniotomy done to relieve pressure in his brain. He also had a spinal tap done due to a fever he has had for about a week that won’t go away. There’s still so much they don’t know and we won’t know until he wakes up. We are hoping that with some help from Family, friends, and our community that we can help this family ease their minds a bit. That way they can focused on healing and treatment for Javier to get better and not have to stress over medical bills and whatever else may get thrown at them during this difficult time.
