Hi, my name is Tia Graves. While I have assisted many others in fundraising campaigns, I have never been so closely involved with the subject of one, my mami. Today I humbly ask, nay beg, for any financial support that you may be able to bless my family with. You see, I am one of 5 siblings who were lucky enough to be born to Jacqueline Rahera Neal. It is because of my mother’s failing health that I come seeking aid from each of you today. The recent years have not proven easy for her. She is wheelchair bound from severe degenerative joint disease, she has end-stage kidney disease, brittle diabetes and has battled breast cancer. Despite our thinking that we had eradicated the insidious cancer disease, our family has again been pulled back to these cancerous depths. It is with a broken heart that I must share that my mother now has cholangiocarcinoma and pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Mami had a choice to make. You see, this cancer is much more serious and aggressive. She was given two options, chemo and radiation with a possible survival of 1-2 years feeling weak and sick, or a chance at immediate removal of the cancer but with a 50/50 chance that she might not make it through the Whipple procedure to remove it and it’s sequela. After long, painful, tear filled conversations, mami has been scheduled for the Whipple in about a week. She made it clear to us that living through chemo and radiation again is not living at all. She wants to be able to see and touch her family and most importantly …live, truly live. I beg that, should anyone have any money to spare, to please do so. My mother, a Polynesian born woman of Easter Island, would like to visit the ocean while she still can. She wants to honor the sea with cultural prayer and gifts to her Polynesian ancestors. We would like to use any monies raised to help us to book oceanside accommodations for our entire family to perform these rites with her. Next we would like to book accommodations to be near the hospital in Birmingham where she will be having this whipple procedure at so that we can all be by her side, should God decide to call her home. I can’t thank you enough for even taking the time to read this story, I pray that it touches some of you and that you are able to make some sort of a donation. I am so grateful to you for helping me to honor my mami’s wishes! God bless each and every one of you!
