My name is Emma and I am making this fundraiser to help out my mom because my stepdad Frank has recently suffered a massive heart attack followed by cardiac arrest. He was gone for 25 minutes while the doctors fought to save his life. He was then put on life support and airlifted to Victoria where he could be treated by cardiologists. It was touch and go for a few days but they are now confident he will survive. He still may suffer mental deficits due to a lack of oxygen to his brain, but the doctors are hopeful that he will eventually be able to have a good quality of life. His recovery is going to be long and difficult for him and my mom. Frank is and always has been the breadwinner in our family and my mom Julie is unable to work right now because of her health. So in the meantime, my mom has no source of income and will need financial support to help cover monthly expenses (car payments, mortgage, bills, groceries, etc) and extra transportation costs. We live in Duncan and Frank is currently hospitalized in Victoria, so it is costing my mom a small fortune in gas going back and forth every day. He may also end up being moved to the hospital in Vancouver for further treatment, so in order for my mom to go to the mainland to be with him, she will need funds to cover the costs of travel, accommodations, and food. Frank is an incredibly selfless person, and he deserves to be with his wife right now. He would help anyone without even a moment of hesitation and he never complains when something inconveniences him. His job is head cook at the Warmland shelter in Duncan, so he spends his days cooking for the homeless. Despite being devastated, my mom is holding it together as best she can, and the last thing that she needs to be worrying about is money. Frank has fought so hard so far to recover this much and survive. He would be so hurt to know mom is going through this and wouldn't want her to be worrying about everything else as well as him. No one likes to ask for help but they could use all the support they can get right now. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
