For the ones that may not know me my name is Amanda Thurber and on June 23rd 2024 mine and my family 's world shook like an earthquake, literally.... a 89 year old diabetic man had passed out at the wheel and crashed in to my double wide mobile home with full force while we were inside. Thank God no one was hurt, even the old man walked away. He had a little scratch and low blood sugar. How he missed multiple trees and even a telephone pole and found the east side of my house has left us all shocked and to make matters worse, marion county building inspectors red tagged my house and told us we had to vacate our home immediately. He deemed it unsafe do to the home being shifted on the blocks. There is damage to the frame and support columns are down and hurricane straps snapped among some other things. We are a family of 5 with 5 dogs and other animals on the property. We were able to stay in a pet friendly airbnb for a couple days and seek assistance from a local shelter ( Vocal) for our dogs. This helped us find more cost effective living situations for the moment we have been staying in a friend's house that is on vacation till the 8th. Two days ago I got a call about my great Dane who was in the shelter saying he wasn't doing well with being boarded. We took him to the vet and found out he had bloat. His stomach had flipped and twisted and it was past the window of saving him with surgery. My 9 year old autistic daughter had to say goodbye to her best friend and she doesn't understand why. But I know why. It's because he wasn't with us. We would of picked up on a personality change and got him help. But the shelter didn't know him to know anything was wrong till he showed real signs and by that point it was to late. Funds have run out and come the 8th we do not know were we are going. From all the experts we have talked to were looking at a couple months before we have anything settled. We are trying to get enough to rent a place or get a camper. We want to get our dogs out of the shelter and back with us. If you know me than you know how hard it is for me right now to write this and ask for any help. Normally I'm the one helping others and not worrying about myself. I'm very stubborn and have a lot of ambition to be independent. But I'm swallowing my pride and asking for any assistance you can give. Literally every dollar adds up and I'd be forever grateful for whatever amount you can do to help my family. If you look up my fb page you can see photos and follow along with what happens next. Thank you for atleast reading this far if you can not help it's OK can you please still share. God bless you
