Hi, my name is Alfred and I am fundraising for Mariela. She and I attended the same school in Ecuador from K-12th grade. She is a single mom, volunteers for many projects, and is the primary organizer of our class reunions. A year and a half ago Mariela broke her left forearm in a traffic accident in her home town in Ecuador. She didn’t have private medical insurance and was thus taken to the nearest public clinic, where they operated on her left arm. However, the surgery was not performed well and as a consequence she has lost the use of her left arm. She is in constant pain and her arm is always swollen. These issues can only be fixed with another surgery where the existing plate, which is too big and is impinging on her rotator cuff and a nearby bone, has to be removed, the scar tissue cleaned up, and a proper sized rod inserted and secured with 6 screws. Since she is self-employed, she doesn’t have medical or disability insurance. Furthermore, the inability to use her arm, as well as the current economic situation in Ecuador, have contributed to her reduced income. The need for this surgery is urgent as the risk for an infection is high given that it’s constantly swollen, and she could lose her left arm completely. This is why I am creating this fundraiser and am hoping to reach the goal as soon as possible. Mariela has found a competent surgeon in a private clinic that has agreed to perform the surgery at a reduced cost. All funds collected will be used to cover the medical costs of this procedure. I thank you for your prayers and for all donations you are able to provide. Everything adds up and will be returned as blessings from God.
