I’m not sure how to begin this. So much has happened in one week. One June 23rd my brother-in-law, Martin, woke up in extreme pain. At the hospital he and my sister, Nicole, learned that he had a grapefruit sized tumor just above his stomach. A biopsy was taken and more tests were ordered. In the days that followed waiting for the biopsy results, Martin continued to experience excruciating pain. His doctors were proactive in trying everything, but the pain remained intense. My sister was at the hospital every day, holding his hand, giving him ice, and supporting him. A CT scan revealed nodules on his lungs. When the biopsy results came back a week later it was confirmed, cancer. Aggressive. Prognosis poor. It was a no good, very bad day. They decided to try chemo, and he had his first treatment July 1st, but the doctors have suggested palliative care. They have three daughters ranging in age from 16-21. The eldest is in a graduate program at university, the middle has recently moved out and is in that stage of supporting herself and still needing her parents sometimes for financial and emotional support, and the youngest wants to be a pilot and has been working towards getting her private pilots license. This medical crisis is having huge impacts on this family. The medical bills, in spite of having health insurance, will be substantial. Anything you can give without hurting your budget will be massively appreciated. Aside from medical bills the funds will go towards everyday household bills, and continuing to keep the family afloat. I will keep this updated on how Martin and Nicole and their family are doing. We all care about them so much.
