My name is Brandon Anderson, and I'm raising money to help with my father's medical costs. About 4 years ago my dad fell off of a ladder at work in Logan, which seems to be the beginning of his medical maladies. From that initial fall, he broke his hip & femur; surgery was required to repair the damage. During that hospital stay, the medical staff failed to make sure he was passing fluids - this led to his bladder accumulating almost 10 liters of fluid in it, which damaged his kidneys. He survived both issues and got out of the hospital several weeks later; then he completed months of rehabilitative care. Shortly after recovering from this incident, my father had a heart attack. His cardiologist mildly hinted that the kidney damage from the previous hospital incident allowed toxins to build up in his blood, and started dissolving his bones. This dissolved bone matter clogged his arteries, which was corrected by triple bypass surgery. While recovering from heart surgery at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, his kidneys began to fail completely. He now has to have dialysis every 2 days, or he can do home dialysis every day. After getting used to his new normal - living with kidney failure, or "End Stage Renal Failure," we found out that he had cancer in his bladder. This cancer battle took 2 surgeries to remove cancerous mass from his bladder, and 2 rounds of treatment. He has recently checked up on his cancer, and he is now cancer free as of this July - hooray! After recovering from a fall, recovering from a heart attack, and recovering from cancer, you'd think we were done with this story... But no, there's more Late last year - right around Christmas time - my dad stubbed his toes in the house while walking to the kitchen. Due to poor circulation in his feet and legs, the toes & later the whole foot had to be amputated on his left leg. He spent several months recovering from this procedure, and learning how to walk again with a prosthetic in a rehabilitative care facility in Logan. After being home for 1 week, my dad fell while walking to the restroom and broke his other foot in a very gruesome way in late June of this year. Back to the hospital, where surgery was required to repair the damage. My dad is currently in a rehabilitative care facility and is working on healing so that he can begin his physical therapy to recover from this injury. Through all of these medical challenges over the last several years, my mother has been by his side constantly, stayed with him in the hospital and rehab centers, and been his favorite nurse who will sneak him good food from the outside on occasion. I'm hoping to raise enough money from this Go Fund Me to assist with the costs of the medical care he is currently receiving. The skilled nursing facility costs about $8,000 per month, and Medicare is no longer covering any of the costs. We also decided as a family that it was time for my parents to move to Washington State with me and my family. We hope to be able to provide daily support to him and my mother. We're hoping that some of the money we raise can be used to assist with moving costs. My dad is a US Air Force veteran, an active LDS church member, and has been heavily involved with Boy Scouts (I'm an Eagle Scout too!). Please consider donating to help my father, and thank you for your time reading about his story over the last 4 years.
