Dear All,As many of you know, Peter Dougherty passed from this life on October 12, 2015. Ever a generous and loyal friend, his Facebook page has become a tribute site, filled with testimonials and thank you messages from the many people he has helped in his life.As Godfather to one of Peter’s kids, I am writing to you now because one of Peter’s central goals was to give his beloved Ciaran and Nia the best college education he could. I also know that his friends’ and family’s contributions to that goal would be the thing that would make him the most happy.Ciaran is 17 years old and in his senior year at Fordham Prep in the Bronx . Like his father, Ciaran is interested in preserving the environment and wants to study Environmental Leadership in College. His ability to show compassion and empathy to others during the difficult period just after his father’s passing was an indication to me of what a fine young man he is.Nia, a 13-year-old freshman at Hastings High School, NY, is mature, smart and has a wide circle of loyal friends. Although she’s not yet looking at college, Peter would want her to have choices when she reaches that age. I have tried to imagine how it would be to lose your father at such a young age and found it too painful to think about. I’m asking everyone, who can manage, to remember Peter, and do something that he would deeply appreciate. Please donate what you can towards the education of Ciaran and Nia.
