Hi everyone! As many of you already know, Audrie Leal is (was) my bold and fearless paralegal. Shes also formerly your CCPD victim advocate with deep family ties to CCPD and local law enforcement. She is a beautiful person with a heart of gold, and was my right hand in life and work. Unfortunately, last month she began experiencing some vision problems that we hoped were temporary. That proved to not be the case. In her words: “On June 22, 2024 I was diagnosed with MOG Antibody Disease. After a visit to an ophthalmologist and the ER which lead to CT scans, MRIs, and a lumbar puncture I learned I had swelling in the optic nerves behind my eyes. Within 5 days, I lost all sight. Complete darkness. My mom rushed me to San Antonio where I spent the next week and a half in the neurology unit at the University Hospital. I underwent five treatments of steroids by IV and five plasma exchanges (PLEX). After starting my procedures I began to see improvements in my vision little by little, everyday. My first glimpse of hope was my mom’s shadow. I’ve regained some sight and I am proud of the progress I’ve made, but only time will tell how much I gain back. This link has more information on my rare, fairly new diagnosis: https://rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/mog-antibody-disease/Our Audrie is a fighter and will overcome more than the doctors will ever say, but she is facing a lot of high medical costs and expenses trying to adapt her home to being visually impaired. She’s got quite the path ahead, as she’s still unable to drive or work, but thankfully able to still be a Mom to her baby girl❤️ We are asking for any help any of you may be able to give to support our girl and her baby, Rosalie, through this difficult time. We thank you all in advance for the love, prayers, and offers of support to date. Much like her daddy, Albert Leal, our girl Audrie is a fighter and will be stronger with all of our love and support.
