On the afternoon of June 14, while on her way to the site of one of her projects, Silvia was critically injured in a violent 4-car accident caused by a recklessly speeding driver on Lennox Avenue. Riding in the back seat, Silvia's body received the full impact of a devastating rear-end collision. After being rushed in critical condition to a local hospital it was decided she should be transferred to New York-Presbyterian Hospital for Special Surgery where she underwent 2 surgeries and was placed in a medically induced coma. While her condition remains extremely delicate, she is now cognizant and responsive but is being kept heavily sedated to better ensure her long-term recovery. Doctors are optimistic and Silvia has in the past days shown movement in her feet. She is receiving excellent care but now requires your compassion, love, respect, friendship, sympathy, strength, courage, and your immediate attention in the form of financial help. As you can imagine: her medical expenses will be substantial: and as you might fear: her business and personal expenses will not cease to require attention. Silvia’s recovery will be lengthy, and costly, and will most certainly include current and future hospitalizations, specialist visits, in-home and in-patient care, transportation and the assistance of therapists, nurses, and caregivers. Follow-up surgeries are inevitable. The goal of this life-saving fund-raising campaign cannot accurately estimate these costs--and as such the amount considered here will address her current and short-term medical expenses as well as alleviate some of Silvia’s professional financial obligations. Aside from Silvia being a fiercely independent and vibrant thinker she is also a beach loving, tango-dancing, sister in all the ways…a daughter, a friend, aunt, cat-mom, studio head, office manager, neighbor……Her brilliant drawing abilities are matched by her ability to creatively solve problems and envision designs of striking, but functional originality.
