Friends,As Past Commander of the Sons of the American Legion, I encourage everyone to read the letter below from our current adjudent, Bill Fenerty. If you can help by making a donation, it would be greatly appreciated. If you cannot, please share our operation so we can help a member of our community. Sincerely,Steve RossPast Commander Sqrn 396----------------------------------------------------------------------Dear friends,My name is William Fenerty. I have served as the Adjutant of the Sons of the American Legion for the past seven years. These years of service come with great reward. As a member I have been involved with several fund raising events to help out and provide for men and women who served our country in the armed forces. As a group we help support our community as well. Today I find myself in need of your support. Recently a member of our community approached us asking of there was anything we can do to help out. This gentlemen has been in our community for a long time. He is truly one of our own. I am choosing not to list his name. He is a father of two children. An eighteen year daughter and a fourteen year old son, they are both wonderful children and as a father when I heard the story my hearts shattered. As parent of two children myself, I listened to this man’s dilemma and tears rolled down my cheeks. This individual explained that his daughter has Down syndrome and his son has severe autism. He has a good job yet with all the expenses he faces daily he cannot afford to meet this need. At this time his son is starting to run and react to situations in uncontrollable manners. The boy’s doctor recommends a service dog.We are asking for the individuals in our community to help us purchase and pay for the training of a service dog for the wonderful young boy. I have spent many hours researching and going to trainers to understand what it take to make this happen. There is a local dog trainer who has a proven record with service dogs and with his guidance we are searching for the dog as you read this letter. The training of the dog will be done in parts and cost will be about $6000.00. We discover in our search that the dog itself will be $1000.00. Our goal is to raise $7000.00 for this cause. I know that those of you with whom I am contacting will generously provide. Your contributions should be made out to the Sons of the American Legion. We will provide a tax credit letter with our appreciation for your support. I would like to thank each of you in advance for your support. In the future should you see a young boy walking with his dog I know that in your heart this simple SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION donation will surely give you a smile and knowledge that the smile you see on him was bought and paid for with you generosity. Gratefully yours, William Fenerty SAL 396 Adjutant PS. If you provide an email address we will gladly keep you updated on the progress and successes.
